The journey from Lusail to Al Wakra is one of the longest commutes you can make in Qatar. These two cities sit at opposite ends of the Doha metropolitan area. One offers futuristic skyscrapers and luxury shopping at Place Vendôme, while the other provides a glimpse into the country's pearl-diving heritage at the Old Souq.

Navigating between these two extremes requires a bit of planning. You might be wondering if the Metro is actually faster than driving, or if a taxi will cost a fortune during rush hour. We have tested every route to give you the answers. Below, we compare the Red Line Metro, local taxis, and private transfers to help you decide the best way to travel.

Best Ways to Get from Lusail to Al Wakra

The Doha Metro

If you want to save money, the Doha Metro Red Line is your best bet. It connects Lusail directly to Al Wakra without requiring any line changes.

The Route You will start your journey at Lusail QNB Station. This is the northern end of the Red Line. From here, you will ride all the way to the southern end, Al Wakra Station.

Operating hours:

  • Saturday – Thursday: 5:00 AM – 1:00 AM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 AM

The Cost:

  • Standard View: A single trip costs just 2 QAR. You will need a reusable Standard Travel Card, which you can buy at the station for 10 QAR.
  • Gold Club: If you want a padded seat and a quieter carriage, buy a Gold Club card. The trip will cost 10 QAR.

Guide to taking the Metro to Al Wakra

Enter the station: Head to Lusail QNB station. If you are coming from Place Vendôme, you can also switch to the Metro at Legtaifiya station.

Board the train: Hop on the Red Line heading South.

The critical split: This is the only tricky part. After about 35 minutes, the train reaches Oqba Ibn Nafie station. The line splits here.

  • Check the screens above the doors.
  • Ensure the destination says “Al Wakra.”
  • If it says “Hamad Intl. Airport,” get off at Oqba Ibn Nafie and wait for the next train.

Arrival: Al Wakra is the final stop. The whole trip takes around 50 minutes.

TravelThru Private Transfer

Traveling with small children? Or perhaps you just finished a long meeting and want a stress-free ride. A private transfer is often the best choice for these situations.

Ride-hailing apps are popular, but they come with risks. You often face surge pricing during rush hour in Doha. You might also wait over 15 minutes for a driver to accept your ride in Lusail.

We solve those common travel headaches. Here is why a private transfer beats a standard taxi on this long route:

  • Fixed pricing: You pay exactly what you see on the screen. We never charge extra for traffic jams or high demand.

  • Zero waiting: You book your ride in advance. Your driver arrives at your location exactly when you need them.

  • Premium comfort: You get a guaranteed clean and modern vehicle. We offer sedans for solo travelers and spacious vans for large families.

  • Professional service: Our chauffeurs are well-versed in the city. You can relax or catch up on emails without worrying about the route.

To get an instant final price, simply go to the TravelThru website. Enter "Lusail" for your pickup and "Al Wakra" for your drop-off location.

Taxi & Ride-Hailing

You have plenty of choices when it comes to taxis or ride-hailing in Qatar. Expect to pay between 40 QAR and 60 QAR for a standard car. This price changes based on demand.

We recommend keeping a close eye on the time. Prices often jump drastically during rush hour. A trip might cost 80 QAR or more if demand is high.

The drive usually takes about 35 to 40 minutes. But remember that you must cross the entire city to reach Al Wakra. If you leave between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the drive might take over an hour.

Connecting to Landmarks

You arrived at the station. But your journey is likely not finished yet. The metro stations in both cities are a few kilometers away from the main attractions.

Here is how you can bridge that final gap easily.

Arriving in Al Wakra

Most people visit Al Wakra for the traditional Souq or the beach.

  • To Souq Al Wakra: You have two good options here. Look for the Metrolink M127 bus just outside the station. This bus is completely free. It drops you right at the Souq entrance. You can also catch a taxi for a short 5-minute ride. We do not recommend walking. The distance is over 3 kilometers, and the sun is often intense.

  • To Al Wakra Family Beach: Hop on the Metrolink M128 bus. It connects the station directly to the beach area.

Starting from Lusail

If you are starting your trip in Lusail, you need to find the right station first. Lusail is huge.

  • From Place Vendôme: Do not go to Lusail QNB Station. That station is too far away. Instead, take the Lusail Tram (Orange Line) from inside the mall directly to Legtaifiya Station. You can switch to the Metro Red Line there.

  • From Al Maha Island: This area does not have a direct tram link yet. Your best option is a quick taxi ride to Lusail QNB Station. It usually takes less than 10 minutes.
